So, you are sitting in the car, enjoying the scenery flash by, until the car stops for a traffic light. As you look across, a car beside you is lowering its window. As you look on, a man leans his head out of his car window... and spits on the ground before rolling back up the window. Ewww.... Spitters are generally male, making people wonder what happened to all the courtesy to females have gone, such as curbing spitting and swearing in their presences. Historians state that some men actually spat seven times per minute, or 5,040 times in 12 hours!
People spitting beside you, is what I believe one of the most annoying and undignified actions they can make. It is annoying because not only is spitting considered a sign of rudeness and inconsiderance of the other person’s feelings, sometimes, you have to step to avoid their spit, which is.. SERIOUSLY ANNOYING. What ever is wrong with swallowing spit, once in a while, or spitting in a tissue? Spitting doesn’t have to be in public, like in Korea, and in Seattle, where tourists are revolted by the “shiny” spots on the pavement.
I believe that spitting in public is rude, undignified, and especially sets an incredibly bad example for children. What people do in public often reflects on what the younger generation copy and learn from. And who wants to see children copying other people and spitting in public?? Spitting in public on the ground just shows how inconsiderate you are of how people view you. I believe that spitting is just like throwing up, just to a lesser degree, and people know that throwing up in public is severely frowned upon.
Not only does it look disgusting outwardly, it is also a public health hazard. In people’s spit there be mucous that can very well be carrying many kinds of diseases, that may be transmitted everywhere, through shoes. Such diseases include the common cold, hepatitis, flu, measles, pertusis, meningitis, tuberculosis or halitosis germs. Imaging stepping on some diseased spit, then walking around with it all day, where someone else may sit or step on your tracks, or in America, where people step into their houses with shoes, children might unsuspectingly be exposed to diseases.
As the author of this pamphlet, I believe that spitting, the act itself is perfectly fine, but spitting in public, is a public health hazard and in many places, also socially unacceptable. I believe that we should take a stand against people who habitually spit in public, because plainly put, it is not a pretty sight. Instead of just putting up signs against spitting, i believe we should also put up such awareness signs. We could be saving hundreds of lives by preventing the spread of diseases or encouraging more manners in this current society.
